I fell asleep while the candle on the table melted and wax flew all the way down to the carpet. Later I found hard candle wax freeze on the carpet and had no idea what to do.
These steps helped me with removal it easier than I thought. The process will work to clean candle wax stains and scrub from any fabric at all – from carpets to clothing.
You just need three things:
- An iron (A hairdryer will work in a crunch)
- Plenty of paper to absorb the wax (Paper bags work the best, followed by newspaper and paper towels)
- Patience
Then follow these steps:
- Using an instrument with a dull edge such as a butter knife, scrape off as much of the hardened wax and scrub as you can and then vacuum it up.
- Place your absorbent material down over the wax stain. If you’re using paper towels, use 2-3 layers.
- Run an iron set on low (“delicate”) and without steam over the paper taking care not to burn the material you’re cleaning. You will notice the paper get darker as the iron melts the wax and wicks it up into the paper. When this happens, move the paper so a fresh area is over the wax and repeat until all of the wax is gone. If you’re removing wax from shag carpeting you may need to fluff and brush the carpet to expose it at different angles in order to get all of the wax up. Be patient and you’ll get it.
- If you’ve gotten all of the wax up and some color from the candle still remains, apply a spot cleaner and scrub.
Removing wax is simple
So it is simple, you can do it. You just need to have patience when dealing with a large spill and be sure not to burn your carpet, furniture, or clothing. After you get it done, you will be proud of yourself. Good luck!
